Veronica (not her real name), from a small southern Ukrainian town, is now starting from scratch in Germany. She admits that this is not easy – you need to learn the language, adapt to the mentality, the rules of life in another country. After all, until this year, she had no plans to leave Ukraine.
Veronica takes ART at home for seven years, and although she had a month’s worth of therapy when she moved, it passed very quickly. During this time, Veronica did not have time to learn German in order to find information herself, where to get help, and she was afraid to reveal her HIV status to the people who took her in.
“I was desperate and called the nurse from my AIDS center at home. She said that the medicines are running out, but I don’t know where to register. She sent information about the HelpNow service. Thank you for your promptness! After I wrote, everything went very quickly: I got the necessary contacts, was helped with the translation, and got an appointment at the medical center.”
On the appointed day, Veronica arrived in the city, which turned out to be the closest to her place of residence. She didn’t have to wait – as soon as the medical card was filled in at the reception, the doctor came out to see her.
“He was very attentive: he asked everything in detail, made a checkup. Since I knew what therapy I was taking and brought the packages with me, he immediately wrote out a prescription. I was taken to the pharmacy, where I received medicines for three months at once! Without your help and support, I would not have been able to do this. Thank you for such attention and care!”
