Once you have obtained temporary protection in France, you need to contact the French Office of Immigration and Integration (OFII) to issue a settlement card, at which you will receive cash assistance (ADA). The size of this benefit will depend on the composition of your family and whether you live in government-provided housing or not. It should be noted that the ADA card is a payment card. You can pay for goods and services with it, but you cannot withdraw cash from it. The first charges are received on the card within 30-45 days from the date of its issuance. In the future, the card is replenished on the 5th of each month.
You will usually be referred to the OFII during your prefectural appointment. In such cities as Paris, Nice, and Strasbourg, OFII offices can be found directly in the reception center for Ukrainians. Temporary protection (protection temporaire) provides access to free medical care in all public health facilities in France. The universal health protection system (PUMa) and supplementary solidarity health insurance (CSS) cover the costs of medical care, such as consultations with doctors (therapist, dentist, obstetrician, etc.), and the purchase of prescription drugs or tests and examinations. You are also partially reimbursed for glasses, dentures, hearing aids, and medical devices.
We draw your attention to the fact that you do not automatically receive health insurance after obtaining temporary protection in France. For its registration, you should contact the State Health Insurance Fund (Assurance maladie) at your residence or the Ukrainian Help Center if you are in Paris, Nice, or Strasbourg. The waiting period after submitting the documents is about ten working days.
